Background...
I have always felt deep links to Sind - it is the land where my ancestors had lived and died for generations. I feel humbled by its great, ancient history and honoured to descend from the great Indus Valey Civilisation. Yet, for others and myself, this geographical link ended at Partition. My only personal link to it is through the memories of those who witnessed the Partition of India. I seek to preserve and share these memories with others through the medium of the internet. I also aim to focus the minds on the lessons which we can learn from the past. History is repeating itself today in the Balkans, the Middle East, Africa, Iraq and so may other places. My message is that Partition is not always the best solution in such situations.

I was often told stories about the Partition by my parents and my grandmother (see Dedication). I often wondered what it was really like for those who had experienced the Partition and had gone through those difficult times. The generations which followed have not encountered such tragedies as their parents and grandparents. For me personally it was a step back in time - I learned about my families origins from the older generation of my community. Today, we are witnessing tragedies of human persecution as a result of the conflict of religious beliefs and cultural backgrounds.

It is hoped that this web site may give an understanding of the way in which people have experienced mass exodus and promote compassion in everyone for their fellow human beings. We often forget a simple principle - that all human beings are equal regardless of their age, gender, colour, disability, cultural or religious beliefs. Therefore, we should not discriminate against those who we find different from ourselves but learn, understand, appreciate and enjoy our differences. We should also remember those Muslims who died in the conflicts of 1947 and hope that we, find better ways of living with each other and our beliefs.
