I was often told stories about the Partition by my parents and my grandmother (see Dedication). I often wondered what it was really like for those who had experienced the Partition and had gone through those difficult times. The generations which followed have not encountered such tragedies as their parents and grandparents. For me personally it was a step back in time - I learned about my families origins from the older generation of my community. Today, we are witnessing tragedies of human persecution as a result of the conflict of religious beliefs and cultural backgrounds.
It is hoped that this web site may give an understanding of the
way
in
which people have experienced
mass exodus and promote compassion in everyone for their fellow
human beings. We often
forget
a simple principle - that all human beings are equal regardless
of
their
age, gender, colour,
disability,
cultural or religious beliefs. Therefore,
we should not discriminate against
those who we find different
from ourselves but learn, understand, appreciate and enjoy our
differences.
We should also remember those Muslims who died in
the
conflicts
of 1947 and hope that we, find better ways of
living
with each other and our beliefs.
