Sindhi
Exodus
Sajan Wadhwani-his
grandfather's
story
"My
Grandfather
was from Sakhar in Sindh. He used to run the Business of Utensils (all
Thali, Katora, glass etc.etc.),
but
when there were riotes in 1947 they (the whole family, My
Mom, Dad, everybody), ran
(towards
India) to save their lives, leaving behind business, property,
everything. They fortunately managed to board a ship from Karachi to
Bombay,
by paying some ruppess to the
ship
person. From Bombay they went to Gwalior, but could not
get a good house. Then they came to Pune (Pimpri), where many Sindhis
had
already
come. We (I was not born, Ok)
were
given the stable area of the military, where they used to
keep horses. Slowly slowly (years), they converted the area to a proper
housing society. They
had to start the business right from scratch. My grandfather died long
back now. My Father
runs
a Railway canteen. I am working in a computer Organisation called CDAC.
It is located in
Pune
University campus, Aundh area."
